New iPhone app, Pepsi Loot. Get freebies for an entry in restaurants!

[ad#ankit1]I have some good news for all Pepsi lovers who love to enter any venue which contains Pepsi products that now they can earn rewards in the process thanks to the newly released iPhone app — Pepsi Loot.

Pepsi Loot

This app made with help of Pepsi will allow iPhone users to locate Pop Spots (Pepsi-selling food service venue) in the Base section of the app and can visit the venue to earn rewards. iPhone users can also use a detailed version of map which allows them to filter pop spots or such venues by cuisine type. Users can access a more detailed map that allows them to filter Pop Spots by cuisine type.

Once accumulated enough rewards points they can visit Loot Section to view various goodies available and watch music videos from featured artists. For every three checking or visiting three such pop spots, each consumers will earn a free digital song download at the Pepsi Loot Store.

Some restaurants will offer freebies to Pepsi Loot users or consumers, so consumers and customers checking in a Pop Spots may find that certain venues or pop spots offer free Pepsi with the purchase of an entry. It should be interesting to see how consumers respond to the one-off brand-specific location app.

Pepsi is now also a non-beverage partner of Foursquare. Though the terms are still being worked out, Foursquare’s Tristan Walker tells us that they will be conducting several experiments with retailers to see if they can move more Pepsi products.

He also clarified that Foursquare isn’t involved with the Pepsi Loot app. So any user using this great app can share his /her reviews with us about the application.

opera mobile widgets

One good news for those mobile web developers. Till date it was not only difficult enough to create mobile compatible site but horrendous task to create web application for mobile.Well Opera came up with platform that can be used to run application. This level of abstraction allows developers to forget about the underlying architecture and concentrate on the application itself.
Opera widgets uses standards like HTML,CSS and javascript Which almost all website is made up with . Opera supports widgets from 9.5 version. One can download a large number of widgets from opera widgets site . Developing your own opera widget is not that difficult too . Would take a no-voice developer few hours to come with with a widget and opera widgets site allows you to publish it too. Can it get better ?
Some of the widgets i found useful were

Opera Twitter Widget.

This Widget is yet another application added to the already billion ones that are available . but the best part is that this is a little but faster .

[ad#ad-2]

This is a Guest Article by Aishwarya Jagadeesh

In this era of running around no one has time to check on silly thing of life, People are aiming for a better life which ensures them more conviniency and connectivity. Coming to connectivity we all know that moblies have become one of the source of it.We have considered this as more of neccesity than need.

Coming to mobile phones we always need to check on the battery level when we go out to ensure the phone does not die. This adds to our task when we have limited time and resource.

Here is a company olive telecommunications which uses a AAA batteries to power its phone. It is called olive frvron which means forever. This is developed by keeping in mind that a large part of India is consisted of villages where power plays ist own part of hide and seek.

This phone has an attractive display with fm and polyphonic ring tones and is also priced at a  lower cost of Rs.1699. Since at any point keeping few AAA batteries extra solves the problem,no need to crib about the phone not working due to less power.

Since our lithium batteries run out very soon this is a better alternative.

This is another phase of revolution to Telecom industry as this will bring all the other phone though has better feature to rethink and remodel them so as to remain in the world of compitance

Now the power of firefox on mobile

[ad#suk1]

Yup! The title says all! After Opera the world’s favorite browser Firefox has gone mobile. But don’t get too exited. Mozilla released the browser version 1.0 for just Nokia N900 and N810. :-(

Yeah many Firefox fans have been left heartbroken. But still firefox mobile has great new features.

Some of them are below:

  1. Easy bookmarking: Firefox lets you to bookmark your websites with just one touch. Isn’t that awesome.
  2. Integrated Download Manager: Download the files etc in the browser itself. No longer need to switch to default browser for downloading.
  3. Spell Checking: Great! Now Firefox checks the words as you type. This feature is only in Firefox i guess.
  4. Less resource eater: Firefox runs with less memory footprints and better performance. :-)
  5. Fox Tabs: This feature is new. Just swipe your finger to the right to see thumbnails of all your open tabs to find what you want quickly.
  6. Search: Access your favorite search engine from your browser’s toolbar. Easy huh.
  7. Improved text rendering: Read your language as it’s written—more like real life. With a new graphics engine, Arabic, Persian, Punjabi and other script languages now render seamlessly.
  8. Downloadable fonts: Available for Maemo devices, view a wider variety of fonts on Web sites while you surf. Site designers and developers can create custom fonts that will be displayed and rendered properly.
  9. Offline Browsing: Even if your mobile phone doesn’t have a Web connection, you can still have information at your fingertips. Certain enabled sites may allow applications—like your Web-based email—to stay with you at all times.
  10. Next generation graphics: You have to see it to believe it. The rendering of text and graphics, including SVG and Canvas, is faster and sharper than ever before, thanks the upgraded graphics engine. Firefox automatically color corrects images that have the color profile data included (like your digital photos) to make sure the colors are exactly as intended.
  11. Web ID: Want to be extra sure about a site’s legitimacy before you make a purchase? Touch on a site favicon for an instant identity overview. Another touch digs deeper: how many times have you visited? Are your passwords saved? Check up on suspicious sites, avoid Web forgeries and make sure a site is what it claims to be.
  12. Password Manager: No longer need to enter passwords again and again. Now firefox does all that for you.
  13. Clear History: No longer to worry about your Web Page history. Clear them easily.
  14. Customized Security Settings: Control the level of scrutiny you’d like Firefox to give a site and enter exceptions—sites that don’t need the third degree. Customize settings for passwords, cookies, loading images and installing add-ons for a fully empowered mobile browsing experience.
  15. Automatic Updates: Prevent you from the bugs discovered and doesn’t keep your privacy at risk.
  16. Pop-up blocker: I bet nobody saw that coming in a mobile browser. Woot. Is it for real????
  17. Great Addons: Now personalize your browser with several addons.

Now that’s a ton of features available first time for mobile users.

Also to synchronize the PC bookmarks to mobile Weave Sync can be used.

Download the Firefox mobile browser from Here.

Free International VOIP Calling

[ad#suk1]

Don’t be exited reading the title. Read it too as it is equally important as the trick.

VOIP, remember these four letters as they are going to be very helpful in coming times.

V.O.I.P means Voice Over Internet Protocol. Basically through this service one can call to any number in the world using a PC.

As defined in Wikipedia:

“Internet telephony refers to communications services — voice, facsimile, and/or voice-messaging applications — that are transported via the Internet, rather than the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The basic steps involved in originating an Internet telephone call are conversion of the analog voice signal to digital format and compression/translation of the signal into Internet protocol (IP) packets for transmission over the Internet; the process is reversed at the receiving end.”

I recently discovered a wonderful website which allows you to call for free using VOIP.

But the negative point is there is time limit which is different for each country.

Like if it’s a Indian no. then the time is as low as 10 seconds but in USA it is about 2-3 minutes.

The website is www.evaphone.com .

How to call:

  1. Open www.evaphone.com and make sure you have a mic and speakers.
  2. There is a dial pad on the screen just like this:
  3. Select the country where you want to call.
  4. Enter the phone no.
  5. Press Call button
  6. An pop up will pop up displaying some flash media.
  7. After the flash media ends your call will start. There is certain fixed duration for the calls as discussed above.

You can try these other options too:

freecall

voipbuster

icall

I cannot guarantee the quality of these links. Please try them at your own risk. According to WOT these links are safe.

That’s all

Google Real-time, Voice, Social Networks…

[ad#shaq1]
Today at 3:30am (AEST) Google released a heck of a load of features. Of course in this post i am going through each one, one by one.
google

As I believe I am not the only when to say this. But I really get annoyed when I Google something thats happening right now, for example: Tiger Woods wife Elin walks out. I would really like to see the lastest update. Well Google is making this a lot more easier for everyone.

In their post they announced that they have released Real-Time searching. The way this feature works is, you search a topic or subject, select latest in the google sidebar, then everything pops up for you. Another thing with google is when you search something that isn’t really popular, it will even search that in real-time as well.

When you search in real-time google not only searches the millions of data on webpages. But even social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Digg ect…

Lets not just pay attention to Real-time Google search lets look at some others. Many of you may know of  Google Trends in the next week or so it will also be using the new real-time feature.
Starting today google will be, extending their voice search capabilities on Android devices to recognize Japanese. In addition, their using the location of your mobile phone to launch some helpful features, like showing you “what’s nearby.” Finally another new feature  “Google Goggles”, a visual search application that lets you search for objects using images rather than words, using your camera phone.

During the last couple of months Google has released a hell of a lot of new applications, and services. And they are still bringing more out. Sometime next year Google will be releasing Google Chrome OS. Which personally i can’t for. Even though google was dorment for some time, it appears now the silence is paying off.

UniNor Mobile – The new kid on the block! :)

[ad#nandini1]
If you are a regular commuter in Bangalore city, then I am sure that you wouldn’t have missed the numerous hoardings that seem to have taken the city by storm! “Ab Mera Number Hai!” Does this ring a bell??

Yup, I’m talking about the latest competitor in the Indian telecommunication market – UNINOR

Uninor Mobile

Uninor is a joint venture between the real estate firm Unitech Ltd & a Norwegian Telecom company Telenor ASA.
Telenor group brings with them 150 years of experience in the telecommunication industry. They have a strong base in Central & Eastern Europe, Asia and Norway and boast of over 168 million subscribers all over the world. Now, they have arrived in India and are ready to compete with 11 existing service providers.
Interestingly, when all the other service providers are slashing call rates & adopting the per paise scheme, Uninor has launched a per minute billing tariff. Uninor’s operating areas, or circles, include Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (east and west) and Bihar (including Jharkhand). The firm has spectrum in 21 of the 22 circles it is licensed to operate in and expects to launch services in all these by the end of this financial year.

[ad#nandinimid]

Another interesting feature about Uninor is there advertising section. When most of the service providers scurry after filmstars & cricketers to endorse their products, Uninor is using the common man as their icon. That explains the numerous hoardings all around the city with virtually unknown models :) Of course, it is definitely a reflection of the company’s value system.

Make it easy, Be inspiring, Keep promises, Be respectful.

This is Uninor’s value system. They claim that the value system is reflected in their products & services. They also have a fitting tag line “Ab Mera Number Hai” or “My Time is Now”!

Surely, Uninor is creating waves in the market already! Looks like “Ab yeh UniNor ka time hai!” :)

Bharti Airtel Welcomes Twitter! Now Indians Gonna Tweet n Tweet n Tweet!

[ad#srivatsan1]

India has recently become the third largest market for Twitter in just a few month, with 5 million subscribers of a total of over 11.5 million. Following a huge surge in Twitter traffic- Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom service provider is launching tweetSMS, a third-party application that allows you to receive Twitter SMS updates directly to your mobile phone.

Girl-airtel-twitter

Atul Bindal, president-mobile services, Bharti Airtel says

In 2008, Twitter stopped sending free SMS updates to users, instead teaming up with mobile phone companies around the world to create an affordable and easy way to get Twitter SMS updates back on your mobile. In India, Bharti Airtel has an exclusive arrangement with Twitter to offer the service.

The launch of tweetSMS is clearly intended as a retention and brand image play rather than a revenue play. However, after mobile number portability is introduced, it could help attract other subscribers to the Airtel network.

So, What’s Next ? How to Subscribe for tweetSMS on Airtel ?

An Airtel subscriber needs few steps to activate tweetSMS

Step 1 : SMSSignup to 53000 (SMS cost Re.1)

Step 2 : Follow the instructions to complete the registration process and start Tweeting.

Step 3 : For every tweet you post on twitter, you’ll be charged Re.1

Stay in touch with tweeters without internet connection on your mobile phone.
