Dell XPS 16

the processor is the heart of the XPS 16. It comes equipped with one of Intel’s leading edge chips, the Intel Core i7 720QM Quad Core processor with each core running at a snappy 1.6GHz and 6MB Cache. In turbo mode, that speed can be pushed up to 2.8GHz. While that’s likely to be more than adequate for most users, there is an option to replace the processor with an even faster Intel Core i7 820QM Quad Core with a 1.73GHz clock speed that can be pushed to 3.06GHz in turbo mode. It has an 8MB Cache. The video processor is integrated into the motherboard which is likely the single feature that limits this machine in terms of extreme gaming.

The standard storage device for this computer is a 320GB, 7,200RPM hard drive. It can be increased to a 500GB drive. For the fastest data access speeds, solid state drives can be substituted. They’re available in 128GB and 256GB sizes. Though smaller, data access time approaches zero for all practical purposes.

The XPS 16 comes with Dell’s basic two year service plan. It can be upgraded to three years. There’s also an available Advanced In-Home service plan.
AVADirect D901C

Hardcore gamers often resemble a clandestine brotherhood of druids that proudly use obscure language and hide the depths of their knowledge from the general public. AVADirect has long been one of their resources for overpowered gaming setups.

A solid configuration for the AVADirect D901C includes a 3.3GHz E8600 processor. You’ll recognize the desktop class, dual-core processor from the Falcon Northwest FragBook DRX and Sager NP9262. The E8600 is the best dual-core processor you can get without venturing into over clocking or unstable prototype territory. The processor and 4GB of high-speed RAM work together to deliver power to the AVADirect D901C’s dual GeForce 9800M GTX video cards. The SLI configured video cards mean that, performance wise, the AVADirect D901C will be indistinguishable from a high-end gaming desktop. Yep. You’ll be playing Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 and Starcraft 2 on your laptop.

There are cheaper gaming laptops around. Budget gaming machines like the Toshiba Qosmio X305 and Gateway P-7811FX are a bit friendlier on your pocketbook than the AVADirect D901C. They just don’t come with the promise of godlike performance. For around $4,000 with SLI and a high-end processor, the AVADirect D901C is pretty affordable as far as extreme performance laptops go. AVADirect offers a boatload of build options, so if you’re looking to save a few hundred dollars you can always downgrade a few components.

Equipped with the Intel Core i7 and i5 processors, the Qosmio laptop delivers maximum processing power when you need it most. So you’ll fly through intense 3D games, creating and editing video, or enjoying music and photos. With Intel Turbo Boost

Booming harman kardon stereo speakers on this laptop lend an added dimension to music, movies and gaming. And Dolby Home Theater puts you right in the middle of the performance.

Built for performance and speed, the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M GPU on this laptop delivers highly-realistic visuals plus 1GB of DDR5 VRAM power so you can power through the latest 3D games and demanding system tasks at lightning fast frame rates.
