Google Nexus – Will this beat the hell out of iPhone??

The term Google has become synonymous with “search”. Youtube remains one of the most popular video sharing site. Orkut is one of the most popular social networking websites. With almost every product of Google hitting the jackpot, it remains to be seen if they can sustain their winning streak. This January, Google launches Nexus One – a formidable competitor to the high end mobile phones that are currently ruling the market.

Google had earlier given its employees this “little toy” to play around with. And with reports of its first look and features being discussed at length, expectations have sky rocketed.Reportedly, Nexus One is the fastest smartphones which supports a 1Ghz SnapDragon CPU. The closest phone to this is Motorola’s Droid which has a 600Mhz processor, far far behind Nexus.

Nexus is built on Android 2.1 Operating System. It boasts of a 3.7 inch display, a microSD card slot that can be extended upto 32GB, a 5 Mega pixel camera, 512 MB of ROM & 512 MB of RAM. And what more? Nexus is touted to be one of the sleekest mobile phones, thinner that even the iPhone!!

But the big question that critics are posing is “Does Nexus One offer something new?” Well…we are not sure.First of al, Android 2.1 is only slightly better than its predecessor Android 2.0. Moreover, though it is capable of supporting the much anticipated “multi-touch” feature, Google has decided not to support this in Nexus One.This will be a major disappointment to users worldwide.

Consumers in the US have another reason to worry. Nexus One will not work on AT & T’s 3G network but will be available only on the slower EDGE network (also by AT&T). The high cost ($530) is also likely to dissuade consumers. Currently, the most popular phone in the US is priced at $270, much much lesser than Nexus One.

Nexus One seems to be one of Google’s ambitious products. So…will this beat the hell out of Apple’s iPhone??
Well…we need to wait and watch!
