Vodafone painted the town red a couple of years back. Now its time once again for our streets to be giving a second coat of red paint. This time around, its MTS, short for Mobile TeleSystems. MTS follows the GSM standard and is currently the largest mobile operator in Russia. Sistema (based in Russia) and Shyam Group of India entered into this venture in 2008 and that gave birth to MTS in India.
MTS has been listed as one of the most valuable brands in a recently conducted research by Millward Brown. So, its no wonder that its entry into the Indian market has left its competitors in a state of anxiety. Introduced first in the states of Tamil Nadu and moving on to Kerala, Karnataka and moving further up the Indian map, it reached 1 million subsribers in May 2009 . Within a short span of just 3 months ,it doubled its customer base to 2 million!!!! Unbelievable growth rate…this is less than half the time taken to reach 1 million subscribers.
And with every major telecom operator lowering the tariff rates further, MTS is not far behind. They currently offer Half paise /sec on local and STD calls. And thats not all. MTS has also rolled out its Mobile Broadband Serive called M-Blaze in Delhi, Trivandrum, Kolkata and a few other places. The company claims that it provides the biggest high speed data network in the above mentioned cities.
Pretty impressive for a newbie in the Indian market 🙂

And of course, the logo of MTS is already creating waves and is keeping everybody guessing. Almost all of us who have seen the logo must be wondering about the significance of its strange logo. It consists of two red squares placed next to each other. One of them has a white egg in a red background and the other bears the company name. The white egg in fact signifies simplicity and genius, a reflection of the company’s values probably 🙂
This is still early days for MTS but they have already managed to make the Indian telecom market to sit up and take notice! Good going MTS! 🙂
