Is This Microsoft’s New Strategy?

Today while checking my Inbox I found out that I received a mail from our life partner Microsoft.

The mail was actually for the Windows 7 RC(Release Candidate) i.e. Windows 7 Beta users. And what microsoft gave the warning made me give WTF expression.

Check out what Microsoft wrote in that letter.

It’s time to upgrade from the Windows 7 Release Candidate

While most people who tested Windows 7 have now moved to the final version, some are still running the Release Candidate. If you haven’t moved yet, it’s time to replace the RC.

Starting on March 1, 2010 your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Your work will not be saved during the shutdown.

The Windows 7 RC will fully expire on June 1, 2010. Your PC running the Windows 7 RC will continue shutting down every two hours and your files won’t be saved during shutdown. In addition, your wallpaper will change to a solid black background with a persistent message on your desktop. You’ll also get periodic notifications that Windows isn’t genuine. That means your PC may no longer be able to obtain optional updates or downloads requiring genuine Windows validation.

To avoid interruption, please reinstall a prior version of Windows or move to Windows 7. In either case, you’ll need to do a custom (clean) install to replace the RC. As with any clean installation, you’ll need to back up your data then reinstall your applications and restore the data. For more details about replacing the RC, see the Knowledge Base article KB 971767. For more information, visit the Window 7 Forum.

Thanks again for helping us test Windows 7.

The Windows 7 Team

I wanna ask Microsoft what the hell type of strategy is that. Shutting down PC every 2 Hours. I guess the RC users need to keep a stopwatch on the couch.

And to Microsoft: Guys get a life. No one is noob enough to stick on RC. All have downloaded the cracked version from The Pirate Bay. 🙂

Well next time come up with something new. 😐

    Hi Sukhjit,

What exactly don’t you like about a free version of Windows 7 RC for a year? I don’t see anything wrong with automatic shutdowns every couple of hours once everyone has been fairly warned in advance.

Windows 7 is a great OS and I hope you will enjoy it with a legitimate version.

    • Alex Don’t get me wrong! I was saying that other people like the Pirates have pirated version! I am using a legit version! :-).
I believe in genuine Windows as I have my own Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows7. Legit! Do you want pics of my box????

  • I read it somewhere that Windows is going to penalize all users who use pirated version, probably in a blog..Do not take it lightly sukhjit.

    • Yeah they are! I didn’t take it lightly! I was just telling what I think! And Again I have a legit version! 🙂

    • Microsoft really can’t do much. It’ll need to spend money for correcting it which is much more than the profit it can get..
I have a genuine version of Windows, but I often prefer using pirated version.. There’s too much of limitations in the legal version which I removed in the pirated version…
