iMac cranked up with Thunderbolt!

Apple has recently released its newest series of iMac lineups. The surprising thing about these is that they are fitted with the latest technology, the ‘Thunderbolt’ high speed I/O ports. It thrashes even the USB 3.0 standard which is the latest in technology. If you have not read our review about the USB 3.0 here it is USB 3.0 to power a new era.

Thunderbolt had already made its debut in Macbook Pro this year, now Apple has integrated the Thunderbolt ports even in its 21.5 inch and 27 inches iMacs. Apple is not only upgrading its ports but also its internal hardware, revamping the whole system. With the Thunderbolt, comes (wait for it) the Intel ‘Sandy Bridge’ second generation Quad Core i5 and i7 CPUs also dont forget the AMD Radeon HD 6750M and 6970M graphics card. After a complete overhaul of the iMac, imagine what the price tag will be?

Here is a complete featurelist of what the iMac will be withholding together:

21.5 inch                                   27 inch

1920×1080 pixel IPS panel            2560×1440 pixel IPS display

2.5GHz QUAD-CORE Core i5 CPU           3.1 GHz QUAD-CORE Core i5 CPU

AMD Radeon HD 6750M         AMD Radeon HD 6970M

500GB HDD           1TB HDD

1 Thunderbolt port       2 Thunderbolt ports

4 USB 2.0 ports

Firewire 800 port

Gigabit Ethernet

Facetime HD webcam

PRICE TAG: $1,199           $1,999

The above specifications are factory installed configuration. However you can configure your PC parts while ordering, such as add a new Graphics card or upgrade your CPU to an i7. Also according to the latest news from AppleInsider you can remove the existing Graphics card and install a new one later without the need to replace the whole logic board.

With the enormous addition of Thunderbolt ports, Apple has already made a statement. Thunderbolt ports are believed to be twice as faster than USB 3.0 ports. Delivering a classic 10Gbps data transfer speeds, Thunderbolt has flushed the USB 3.0 down the drain. Also the new integration of Facetime HD gives users the capability to video call through other Apple devices such as iPhone’s and iPad’s.
