Facebook App Subscriptions & Local Currency?

Facebook announced on Tuesday on their developer blog  that they will release a subscription service for app developers. This doesn’t mean that you’ll have to pay to use an app on facebook however you may have to pay a subscription fee on applications if  an application maker enables it on there application you may have to pay a fee to access and use the app.

Facebook also stated that they will soon be releasing local currency changes to users. This means instead of purchasing 8 INR worth of Facebook credits for it to be changed to USD currency will not be converted and stay at INR (or whatever your local currency is).

Although these features are to be released sometime in july Facebook has already started testing these services with Zynga and Kixeye. Zynga and Kixeye are two of the most used application owners and developers.

The subscription services is another way for Facebook to earn an income other than from investors, share holders and advertisers. Last year Facebook derived about 83% of its 3.7 billion in revenue from its advertising platform and the rest primarily from Zynga purchasing goods and services from Facebook.

Let us know in the comments below if you would pay to use your favorite app on Facebook and why.

HTC's Beats Audio now on your Android device

How To: Install HTC’s Beats Audio app on any Android device

[ad#chaapsv2-top]
Yes its true. HTC’s Beats Audio, the music enhancer software that comes bundled with every HTC Phone is now available for your Android Phone too and also its completely free.

We have seen many Android apps which can be used to amplify your music and add extraordinary sound effects on your Droid smartphone such as DSP Manager, PowerAMP, Xloud, etc, unlike the stock music app which consists of no music enhancements whatsoever.

How to install HTC's beats audio app on any android device

Beats Audio is one such software which elevates your music to the next level but this app existed for HTC users only, until recently a Senior Member at the XDAForums who goes by the codename “RockoDev” developed the app for all Android devices. Many users have confirmed it works for all the Android versions. The files consists of a flashable zip which is to be put on the root of your sdcard and flashed using a recovery app like ClockworkMod.

Here’s a step by step procedure on how to flash it.

PREREQUISITES:

1. Make sure you have a recovery manager like ClockworkMod or ROM Manager before trying to flash this file.

2. Make sure your Android device is fully rooted i.e. you have Superuser access to your Droid filesystem.

3. Make sure you are using a Android 2.3+ Gingerbread ROM atleast. This app is not tested on Phones running Froyo or any other lower category ROMs.

If you are sure you meet all the above requirements please proceed to the next step on how to install Beats Audio.

HOW TO:

Step 1: Download the Beats Audio zip file by visiting this thread at XDA.

Step 2: Copy the file to the root of your sdcard i.e. don’t keep it in any folder.

Step 3: Reboot into Recovery by pressing Power+Home button simultaneously and choose the option Install zip from sdcard.

Step 4: Locate the file you copied in Step 2 and Press Yes. Let it flash and then select Reboot system now.

Voila. Check out your App drawer and there it is the Beats Audio app!

360 Launcher for Android: Enjoy MIUI fun on your Android for free

[ad#chaapsv2-top]
360 Launcher is a nice new launcher which imitates the MIUI ROM. This launcher was first developed in Chinese and later got translated into English with the help of a XDA member.

I personally tested this launcher and i must say it is a must have launcher for any Androidian. It is fast and full of eye candy themes and wallpapers which are downloadable completely for free from the official site. I really liked the Weather Widget but we can’t change its location settings from Beijing. Although it looks kinda nice just sitting there on my homescreen.

You also get a Power widget bundled with the launcher. The Flashlight included in the widget works out of the box i.e. you don’t need an app to run it. The default theme and wallpaper also matches with the weather widget. Please do try out the extra themes such as Android 4.0 and Windows Phone. Please check out the end of this post for the link to 360 Launcher free themes and wallpapers.

Also i love the 360 launcher lockscreen. Its somewhat close to what you find in the GO Locker Fourkey Theme. But this one is more minimalistic in appearance and smooth in operation.

This the Preferences screen of 360 Launcher. In here you can customize any element of the launcher. Also there is an option to perform backup of your homescreen if you wish to restore it at a later time.

The Launcher also comes with some nice animation effects to enjoy. From Swirl, Snake, Cube to Flippy, Chord and many others, you can personalize ‘em, any way you like.

There’s also a Memory Cleaner widget which cleans out processes hogging your memory and frees space in your RAM. Running many apps in the background sometimes makes your phone run slowly, so this is a great way to free up your memory if you want to get things done quickly.

Here is the official XDA thread to download 360 Launcher for free. This app is not available on the Market.

Google Chrome gets an enormous update

Google Chrome 17 is here! Update now to experience a new user interface.

[ad#chaapsv2-top]
Google Chrome 17 has finally been released. We had already told you earlier that the Chrome team,

had plans to release the next big version of Google Chrome which included vast new speed improvements and security features.

Google Chrome Version 17 was out on February 8th. If you haven’t upgraded yet, its time to do so now. Just visit this page and install the official update. In case you are already a Chrome user, just click the wrench icon and press on About Google Chrome, the update will be installed momentarily.

After update you won’t notice any big changes in its looks, but there are some here and there. Chances are, you haven’t looked carefully. For e.g. the new tab button now doesn’t show a plus sign, its blank and looks attractive now.

The new Chrome also gives you an option to set up chrome with your Google account. After you sign in, you can then sync all your Chrome Bookmarks, History and Settings onto your Google Account which can then be accessed by any device.

Another new thing you will get to see is a refined new look for your History tab. Check it out in the pic below. The links appear in a collapsed list view now. An Actions icon appears for every history, giving you finer control over which items you want to see in your History tab. The Chrome buttons also have a new texture, and the check mark icon now looks more cute.

Coming to Security, if Chrome detects a malicious site, it will block the downloads and give you a warning before proceeding to download. As far as Speeds are concerned, you may want to give this one a try. Try typing a site name in the Chrome address bar. After auto-completing it, Chrome will begin pre-rendering the page before you even click. I checked out the homepage of Mashable.com and the stories loaded pretty quick. I got to see some significant speed improvements in this version.

Google Chrome 17 up to date

All in all, i am happy with this new version of Google Chrome. If you have anything to add, drop a comment below and share your personal experience of the new Chrome with us.

Google Navigation Bar gets a makeover.......Again!

Google falls back its Navigation Bar to the good ol’ Black

[ad#chaapsv2-top]
Google homepage is now back with the old black navigation bar. Just a few months back Google had released a compact version of its navigation bar which used javascript to show a drop-down menu layout. Apparently the change upset a few of them.

As you can see in the pic below, the navigation bar is hidden behind the Google logo and expands when you hover over it. This bar was beginning to get uncomfortable for users, as we couldn’t directly click on the links. Also it was time consuming to hover over the logo and locate the links we wished to go to.

Google old rollover navigation bar

The use of javascript on pages also makes it rather slow while loading. Any Search Engine’s primemost characteristic should be, that it should load quickly, to make users search for things they want, right after they hit the Search button. Another drawback of the old navigation bar was, it took too much space on the homepage.

Here is the new navigation bar which was seen just a few weeks back. The navigation bar is black and is static. There are direct links placed on the bar to your favorite social features.

Google new black navigation bar

If you are still seeing the old hover navigation bar, try clearing cookies and emptying your cache from the browser and restart to see the new bar. Personally i think the black navigation bar is just fine, pure simple and attractive. That’s the way i like it. It seems Google is trying out new features to measure the user experience. Getting valuable feedback from people is a nice way to experiment something new.

The new black bar is compact in its design and sits right at the top of the webpage. Sometimes simple is better. We shouldn’t try to complicate things just so they can look nice.

What do you think of the new Google Navigation Bar? Please share your opinions by making a comment! Thank You.

Google Chrome gets Speed Updates

Google Chrome gets so fast that it loads your webpages even before you type

[ad#chaapsv2-top]
Google Chrome gets a major overhaul. More Speed, More Secure and More Smart. The Beta Version is now available for download. You can test its speed by downloading from the link provided at the bottom of this post.

Chrome is my f

avorite browser. Although i have installed Firefox, Opera, Maxthon and a load of other browsers too on my computer, i use Chrome the most

frequently. Simply because its fast and i like things to get done quickly. The new Chrome is all about adding more speed.

Google Chrome - Faster and more Secure

According to the official Google blog post,

To get you where you want to go even faster, Chrome will now start loading some web pages in the background, even before you’ve finished typing the URL in the omnibox. If the URL auto-completes to a site you’re very likely to visit, Chrome will begin to prerender the page.

This is a great feat, isn’t it guys? I bet there is no other browser which pre-renders a webpage, atleast till now! Apart from the speed improvements, the Google Chrome Team is also focused to provide the browser with extra security features when downloading a file. Kinda like, the Safari, but this is more Google.

When you download executable files such as .exe and .msi, which are considered as threats to your Computer, the new Chrome will automatically notify you that its dangerous and

ask you if you want to still consider downloading it. I guess this was a major security feature which completely lacked in the previous versions.

I hope the Google Chrome browser will continue to be the best browser in the world.

Download the new Google Chrome Beta over here.

Why Aakash and Why Not No Aakash

Speeaking about Aakash 2, aka Ubislate 7+, it’s the higher version of Aakash – the major difference between the upgraded and original versions being – Aakash 2 is not only meant for students but for other commercial purposes as well.

Aakash, aka Ubislate 7

Why? I mean, Why Aakash?

See, there’s a lotta reasons why you gotta go for this tablet.

One, it’s cheap. I mean… I’d anyday prefer the Aakash tablet over a pair of Jeans; both costing around 2.5 grands.

Two, Android. Enough said.

Three, 7 inches display, 2 USB ports and a too-good-for-two-thousand-five-hundred-rupees hardware overall.

Four, 180 minutes battery.

Five, By the time you convert 180 minutes into hours, more or less 100 Aakash 2′s will be booked. No kidding. Ubislate 7+ has been all booked for the months of January and February, yes.

Six, I’ve spent fifteen minutes writing this article. You better buy it. ;-)

What are your views about Aakash 2? Do let me know by leaving a comment.
