YouTube's new video editor is now live

New YouTube Video editor launched: Have you tried it yet?

[ad#chaapsv2-top]
YouTube has launched a new browser based video editor that performs quick fixes to a video after it has been uploaded. This is a built-in editor that launched on 14 Sept, 2011, unlike the cloud based YouTube video editor that we saw in 2010.

After a video gets uploaded on YouTube, you could never make changes to it, rather you had to start from Step 1 i.e. upload it again. With the addition of this editing tool, you can now make changes to the video by clicking Edit Video button.

“Until now, when you uploaded to YouTube, your video was hosted and shared, but couldn’t really be changed. Starting today, you can edit your uploaded videos right on YouTube”, said YouTube software engineer John Gregg.

While the tools are not so legendary that you see in a professional video editing software, these editing options will prove very helpful in making some small changes to your video. Some of the editing tools are:

Rotation of a video, Stabilize a shaky footage, Adjust the brightness such as Saturation levels, Color intensity and Temperature. You can also add extra effects to a video such as make it a Black and White video or effectify it with Sepia.

The exciting news is that even after editing of the video, YouTube does not swipe off all your user interactions on that video. Comments, View count, Video URL and ID, all settings are left intact. You can also undo the edit anytime in the future and still expect a positive output.

Here is a small teaser video that shows you what new features you will get in the new YouTube video editor.

So did you enjoy the new YouTube video editor. Share your experiences by a comment and let us know!

Google+ Suggested Users list

Google+ Suggested Users list just in. Create your own list, get followers!

[ad#chaapsv2-top]

Google+, the Social Network by Google just introduced its Suggested Users list on Saturday. Yes its the same list which you would have seen on Twitter and Facebook. Apparently this list something more different and is based on a slightly new idea.

Google+ implements a Suggested Users list

Bradley Horowitz, one of the minds behind Google+, tweeted that the list based on the no. of Twitter followers you have. According to his tweet, if you have 100K or more followers on Twitter you might be the next face on Google+’s Suggested Users list. The list is not just an imitation of Twitter’s Who to Follow list, where the Popular get more popular and the decent ones get left behind. Although many people are regarding this list creates a racial discrimination between the whites and blacks. Zennie Abraham, a blogger for San Francisco Chronicle says that the list fosters racial sterotypes.

According to a quote on PCWorld, Zennie says

“The Google Suggested User List reads like the typical San Francisco Bay Area tech firm’s view of the World: most of the ‘interesting and famous people’ are white, and if they’re black, they’re male rappers or athletes. Hello, Snoop Dog, Chamillionaire, 50 Cent, Dwight Howard, and Floyd Mayweather!”

As indecent as this idea sounds. Bradley tells us, that was not the way the list was meant to be categorised. He says the list is built on the theory “Top content Tops the list” i.e. the person who shares genuine and informative content on his profile automatically gains a rank up on the list.

According to an excerpt on the Huffington,

In order to retain a position on the list, a user will need to continue creating compelling content. But we should probably allow for folks to take an occasional vacation without concern about their rank dropping [...] No one gets on the list “automatically.” But again, in the early days, we do want to make it easy for users to connect with people they might find compelling. If they prove not to be, justice will be served, and all will be right in the world.

If you already have a profile on Google+, creating your own list should be pretty easy. Get Started over here.

Find whom to add on Google+

How much fuzz this Google+ Suggested Users list will create in the Social Media market is unknown. I for one think that this list will be a big hit as it allows everyone to compete for a rank to top the list.

So what do you think about this list? Drop a comment and let us know! And if you own a face on this list please don’t forget to tell us.

Facebook has recently rolled out new changes to its interface in 2011. These 3 new changes consists of Better Privacy control when sharing posts, Remove unwanted tags of you, Change the visibility of your post after it has been published.

These changes hit to me just today, perhaps Facebook is going alphabetically in releasing its new changes. So lets get down and review these changes one by one. In addition you can also add location to your posts and tag people who you were with then.

FIRST CHANGE: Post status updates to a specific group of people.

While posting a status on Facebook, you now have the option to choose whom you want it to see. Just press the small gears icon in the lower right corner of the status box. While posting an update, choose from Public (Everybody), Friends (Your Friends only), Custom (Specific People only). Now your status message is seen only by the people who are eligible to see it.

No need to worry if you did a mistake in selecting the visible persons. You can change it even after you have published a post. Just select the gears icon and change it back again.

That’s it. Now whenever any of your Friends tags you in a Photo, you have got to approve them before they start displaying on your profile. As soon as a Friend tags you will receive a notification. After you click it you will be taken to the Wall tab where a sub-tab called Pending Posts will appear which will help you Approve or Disapprove the Photo tags. Easy isn’t it?

THIRD CHANGE: Change the visibility of your older posts.

Many a times we think whether to make this status Public or Private and later go with Public anyway. Facebook has now released a nice feature wherein you can change all of your older posts visibility to only your Friends. Don’t worry you wont need to sit the whole night and change the visibility for every specific post.

Firefox 7 beta released

Firefox 7 goes into Beta! Promises 50% less memory usage

Mozilla released Firefox 6 just 2 days ago and pushed its Firefox 7 from Aurora build to the Beta phase on the same day. Firefox 7 Beta is now available from download from Mozilla’s update channel.

Firefox 7 goes from aurora to beta

Key improvements in Firefox 7 is its minimal memory usage. As we all know, Firefox 6 hogs down your memory considerably. I myself have tested it out by opening multiple tabs on Firefox and checking the memory consumption rate. When it takes 1,00,000K amount of memory for just 2 tabs, you can predict at what pace the memory rate will jump when 3 or more tabs are open.

This is why Mozilla team is introducing the MemShrink project with the release of Firefox 7. A project solely concentrated to clean out the memory leaks and crashes seen in the Firefox browsers. Mozilla team is claiming that it is getting successful results.

Developer of Mozilla, Nicholas Nethercote quoted on his blog,

“Firefox 7 uses less memory than Firefox 6 (and 5 and 4): often 20% to 30% less, and sometimes as much as 50% less. In particular, Firefox 7′s memory usage will stay steady if you leave it running overnight, and it will free up more memory when you close many tabs.”

Other great features to be expected in Firefox 7 are:

  • Azure Direct2D for Canvas which renders canvas based animations in HTML5 smoothly.
  • Improved Javascript Garbage collector.
  • Firefox Sync is faster now which means all your passwords and bookmarks will be synchronized instantly.
  • New add-on to be introduced called as Telemetry which allows users to send performance data to Firefox developers.

Firefox 7 is destined to be released this September 27. But for other anxious people who can’t wait, here is the Beta download link.

Firefox 7 beta in review

I think Firefox 7 will be a good news for everybody and since Mozilla has introduced this rapid updates we will be seeing a new version of Firefox released every 6 weeks. I am very excited for its release. Are you?

Time Travel in Games now! Girl discovers exploit in mobile games

A 10 year old girl from California whose is called as CyFi in the hacker world has discovered an exploit in Android and iOS games. This exploit allows users to time travel in games.

Girl discovers exploit in mobile games

According to CyFi, we can now fast forward the game progress by advancing the clock. The logic is simple, disconnect the device from WiFi and advance the clock by small increments then reconnect it to WiFi. The result is you are now ahead of time and you are pretty much enjoying it!

She was out sitting playing a Farmville game and apparently got frustrated because the game wasn’t moving fast enough. The game is designed such that a particular crop takes more or less 10 hours to mature. CyFi discovered that if we can advance the clock somehow we can jump into the time sequence and skip the previous chapters.

CyFi told CNET,

“It was hard to make progress in the game, because it took so long for things to grow. So I thought, ‘Why don’t I just change the time?’”

She calls this creation as “Zero Day”. Mobile developers and Testers failed to discover this flaw in games with which we can easily cheat a game. CyFi has done a great job by discovering this vulnerability, she is denying to reveal further details of the flaw as she wants to give the game developers time to fix it. Don’t take this kid lightly she is the co-founder of DEFCON KIDS which is a small part of DEFCON ( The World’s largest underground hacking conference).

Google+ has games up its sleeve. A new Gaming network to start

Google+ is starting a new gaming platform on its social network. Vic Gundotra, the Senior VP of the Google Plus Team announced it officially on the blog yesterday.

google plus gaming network

Soon you will be seeing a new tab on your Google+ page. The tab will be placed next to the Circles tab and will be all about Games. Like Facebook, Google+ thinks that a social interaction isn’t just limited to conversations, it is about the real life experiences.

According to the blog post,

With the Google+ project, we want to bring the nuance and richness of real-life sharing to the web. But sharing is about more than just conversations. The experiences we have together are just as important to our relationships. We want to make playing games online just as fun, and just as meaningful, as playing in real life.

You can also brag about your scores to other people and vice versa. The Privacy feature in Google+ is very easy to fiddle with. As Google+ states it is not compulsory for you to be interested in games too, you can easily switch off the game tab and then you will only see conversations from your friends.

Google+ currently has an attractive set of games to begin with like Angry Birds, Crime City and Sudoku. Start the gaming fun right now! Here is a sneak peek about how the gaming experience will be on Google+.

Gmail Preview Pane launched

Gmail Preview Pane launched. Browse mails faster

Gmail just yesterday launched its new gadget or shall i say a Labs feature, the Preview Pane. As the name suggests its use, the widget is used to preview your mails rather than opening them completely.

Gmail Preview Pane enable

To enable this feature just goto your mail settings, select the Labs tab. Enter preview as your search word. Click on the Preview pane result. Mark the Enable checkbox and click Save changes.

gmail-preview-pane-settings

When the page gets reloaded, you will see a small list button at the side of your navigation buttons. Just click it and you will be shown with a dropdown box. Select Vertical Split or Horizontal split according to your desire. A new sidebar will be launched. Just click on any mail message and you will be previewing it on your preview pane in no time.

Gmail Preview Pane in action

Quite an easy way to check your messages isn’t it? I for one think its very arduous and time consuming to sit and open each unread mail and press back to return to the inbox. With this feature a lot of mails can be read in a short time.

Folks at TechCrunch and Mashable are regarding this as a messed up and an incomplete product but i beg to differ.

Tell us what you think about this new contraption! Is it a GO or a NO-GO?
