Google Android One to Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh:

After the successful launch of Android One in India three months ago, Google introduces the Android One program to other Asian countries including Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The Android One initiative aims to make high quality smart phones accessible to as many people as possible and they were a grant success in Indian market due to its lower price range.

s

They said,

“We’re taking another step toward reaching the next five billion people: in the coming weeks, the Android One devices will start to go on sale in India’s neighbouring countries of Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.”

The first three Android One devices came from Karbonn, Micromax and Spice. They shared the same basic specs: a 4.5 inch display, a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor, dual SIM cards, a replaceable battery and a built-in FM radio. Karbonn are also working to release second generation Android One phones for Q1 2015. The same three devices will be available in these markets for now – Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparkle V, and Spice Dream UNO.

s

Besides Micromax, Karbonn and Spice from India, Bangladeshi manufacturer Symphony will also begin retailing Android One devices, beginning with its Road A50.

All devices will be budget-oriented in nature, but with quality controls meant to ensure that the experience is on par with more expensive competitors. Google Senior VP Sundar Pichai claimed to have been using an Android One phone as his daily driver for some time when the program launched and was pleased with it.

Google will be expanding to more markets with more devices in 2015. Keep visiting the site for further updates. Good day..!! 🙂

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 skips Android 5.0

nSamsung Galaxy Note 4 skips Android 5.0:

Samsung has maintained a name on the international market for all these years and they keep on coming with products which rises to the expectations. If you own a Samsung Galaxy Note Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or Edge, then you probably already waiting quite impatiently for the notification that announces Android 5.0 lollipop as you update. So it looks like you have to you but still a little wait.

n

Because currently it is known that Samsung is planning to skip the first update to 5.0 and instead wants to deliver the same Android 5.0.1. This has the advantage that you can skip the initial bugs of Android 5.0, the disadvantage is of course obvious: The update will take a little longer. So currently available sometime in January in the room.

n

Of course annoying for all owners of grade 4 and grade of the Edge. As an early adopter you want to the latest hardware, of course, have to fit the latest software as soon as possible and elapsed since each week is a pain. However, the step from Samsung is quite understandable and I am eager to know when we officially get to see the update. And obviously we are expecting further updates linked with the models in the coming days itself.keep visiting the site for  getting updated.

Google Smart Contact Lenses Explained

Google is developing a smart contact lens, with pharmaceutical giant Novartis, to help patients manage diabetes. Under a new development and licensing deal between Google and the Alcon eyewear division at Novartis, the two companies said they will create a smart contact lens that contains a low power microchip and an almost invisible, hair-thin electronic circuit. The lens can measure diabetics’ blood sugar levels directly from tear fluid on the surface of the eyeball. The system sends data to a mobile device to keep the individual informed.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin said the company wanted to use “the latest technology in ‘minituarisation’ of electronics” in order to improve people’s “quality of life”. The combination of Google’s technology background and Novartis’ pharmaceutical knowledge would help meet “unmet medical needs”, Jimenez claimed. The Google team involved in the contact lens development is called Google[x], and it focuses on “finding new solutions to big global problems” in healthcare and beyond, according to the companies.

The secretive Google[x] facility operates in Mountain View, California, and one of its most high profile projects has been a self driving car. It is also working closely on speech recognition, balloon powered internet access for rural areas, wind power, and technology for the Internet of Things – in which internet connected home, personal and city objects communicate with each other and take automatic action when different events take place.

Google Maps now available in Hindi

As a part of its global initiative to make maps more useful for users locally, Google is launching Google Maps in Hindi. Starting today, people will be able to see Hindi names for cities, localities, important roads, as well as popular points of interest such as public parks and schools, on the new Google Maps and on Google Maps on Android.

Google-Maps-Logo-Wallpaper
To view Hindi name labels on Google Maps, people must enable Hindi as their preferred language on their device. From a computer, they can change the language preference to Hindi on their Google account settings or by selecting the “Hindi” option at the bottom of the page on the google.co.in home page. On Android, users simply need to select the Hindi option within the “Language and input” menu found in their phone’s ‘settings menu’.

Once Hindi has been chosen as the preferred language, people will be able to see Hindi names directly on the map. These new labels that are visible on Google Maps today have been created by transliterating English names to Hindi, or, translating the English names to Hindi and ensuring the text resonated with local dialects.

Commenting on the launch, Suren Ruhela, Director Product and Program Management, Google said, “Google is committed to making its products more useful for people in India, and creating comprehensive maps is a crucial part of helping Indian users access information about parts of the country that are unfamiliar to them. By launching Google Maps in Hindi today, hopefully Indians can explore and navigate the world around them more easily, whether these are people who already use Maps to find their way around day-to-day or Hindi-speakers coming online for the first time.”

Google Maps is constantly looking for new ways to help improve people’s engagement with the world, whether it’s helping them find what they need or get to where they need to go as quickly as possible. In the past year, Google Maps was redesigned to give people one intuitive mapping experience that’s fast and easy-to-use. The new Google Maps were rebuilt from the ground up, with the new design aimed at helping people make quicker decisions by easily surfacing places of interest, local search results, and rich layers of imagery where available. Google's zerg rush easter trick

Google’s "Zerg Rush" is here to save your day, or is it? Time to battle with the mighty O’s

Google amazed us yet again with their latest Easter egg. This time it is called Zerg Rush. Its time for you to try it out. Search for the term “Zerg Rush” in Google and find yourself in the midst of a lot of O’s whose sole mission is to destroy all your search results by eating them up.

What is your objective? All you have to prove to the G+ team, or so the Googlers call their social network as, is to shoot as many O’s as you can before they make your screen blank. At the end of it is a prize i.e. you get to share your final score onto Google+.

Google's Zerg Rush at a glance

Zerg rush is a term taken from a video game called “Starcraft”. The “Zergs” are one of the alien races in the game Starcraft which have to be eliminated by rushing them with your militia and taking them down immediately.

Inspired by this, Google brought us a nice easter egg to play with yesterday. You can also try out this trick today too, as you know Google easter eggs never get expired. If you are looking for more of Google’s easter eggs then please refer to our other Easter Egg articles and start having fun.

Time to conclude but do tell us what your final score was, if lucky you might have already beat our Chaaps team. 😉

Google+ Local officially launches

Google+ Local now Officially launched: Google Places Bye-Bye

Google+ Local has recently been launched by Google. In short, it is a replacement to Google Places but a really good recommendation tool, probably even better than Foursquare recommendations mainly because it integrates the Google+ social network.

Google has partnered up with Zagat to introduce Google+ Local. Zagat is a very well known company which rates and provides reviews about interesting places around you, mainly restaurants, hotels, clubs, diners, etc. Google+ Local tab has already been added to your Google+ profile. Just sign into Google+, and click on the 7th tab, where it says Local with a superfix NEW.

You may have already seen the advertising of Google+ Local on Google’s homepage, as that’s how they are promoting the new G+ Local. The moment you sign into Google+ Local you will see a page displaying the Recommended places in your city. There are currently 5 major categorization of your favorite places such as Restaurants, Cafes, Bars, Hotels and Entertainment.

For each place there is an overall score which is dependent upon other factors. Take for example, you are searching for a nice 5 star hotel in a city to crash, just click on the most popular overall score and you will immediately see reviews from people you know on G+. The review is based on three important aspects seen in a hotel, the Quality, the Facilities and the Service which is called as Zagat’s 30 point scale. So all the scores will be out of 30.

Google Plus Local Screen Shot 3

You get to vote for each one of them and the overall score will be based on those individual votes you make. Apart from voting you also get to add a personal review. So you always get a quality recommendation…everytime! Your reviews will all be Public by default.

The Plus point here is you get recommendations from people you trust and are friends with, a feature which is seriously missing in a lot travel recommendation sites. There is also an option to book suites, what did you think Google Ads are for? 😉

Google Plus Local Screen Shot 1

Google+ Local has also integrated Search and Maps and is available for all mobile devices too. See a hotel you want to drive to, just click on Directions and Google Maps will come to your rescue.

When writing a certain review you also have the opportunity to upload photos. All those photos will be Public by default so that they can be seen by your friends in extended circles and everyone else too.

Avni Shah, Director of Product Management at Google explains us in the official blog post:

You can also share your opinions and upload photos. These reviews and photos will help your friends when they’re checking out a place, and are also integrated into the aggregate score that other people see. The more you contribute, the more helpful Google+ Local will be for your friends, family and everyone else.

By time we will see more and more features be added to Google+ Local and making recommendations ro your favorite destinations easy and beautiful. Visit Google+ Local by following the link and experience it yourself.

Iris – Now you can chat with android !

Recently Apple launched iOS5. The main feature that caught everyone’s mind was Siri. Siri is a personal assistant application for iOS. The application uses natural language processing to answer questions, make recommendations, and perform actions.

There was a huge uproar that this is the reason Android can never compete with Apple’s products. However, Dextera, the android developmental team managed to make a prototype of a personal assistant in just 8 hours! Here’s a video demonstration by XdaDevelopers:

Although still in developmental process, Iris proved a point. What took Apple a really long time to develop took Android just 8 hours. This was due to the expertise in google, existence of voice recognition software that was open sourced, and inspiration from the already launched siri.

The new Iris app is now available on the Android Market. Download it and try it out. The best part with Iris is that you can play around with it and have fun. Its not just something that’ll simplify your life but also make it more enjoyable.

Summing up: Iris is

  • Personal assistant for android
  • Developed by Dextera
  • First prototype was made in 8 hours
  • Understands everything you say(try it out, even misuses and abuses are understood)
  • More fun to use than Siri
  • Now on the Android Market

YouTube's new video editor is now live

New YouTube Video editor launched: Have you tried it yet?

YouTube has launched a new browser based video editor that performs quick fixes to a video after it has been uploaded. This is a built-in editor that launched on 14 Sept, 2011, unlike the cloud based YouTube video editor that we saw in 2010.

After a video gets uploaded on YouTube, you could never make changes to it, rather you had to start from Step 1 i.e. upload it again. With the addition of this editing tool, you can now make changes to the video by clicking Edit Video button.

“Until now, when you uploaded to YouTube, your video was hosted and shared, but couldn’t really be changed. Starting today, you can edit your uploaded videos right on YouTube”, said YouTube software engineer John Gregg.

While the tools are not so legendary that you see in a professional video editing software, these editing options will prove very helpful in making some small changes to your video. Some of the editing tools are:

Rotation of a video, Stabilize a shaky footage, Adjust the brightness such as Saturation levels, Color intensity and Temperature. You can also add extra effects to a video such as make it a Black and White video or effectify it with Sepia.

The exciting news is that even after editing of the video, YouTube does not swipe off all your user interactions on that video. Comments, View count, Video URL and ID, all settings are left intact. You can also undo the edit anytime in the future and still expect a positive output. These features have been around for a long time on major prodcutions like Memory Tree Video Production, for example, it’s only recently that we are seeing this developement online.

Here is a small teaser video that shows you what new features you will get in the new YouTube video editor.

So did you enjoy the new YouTube video editor. Share your experiences by a comment and let us know!

Google+ Suggested Users list

Google+ Suggested Users list just in. Create your own list, get followers!

Google+, the Social Network by Google just introduced its Suggested Users list on Saturday. Yes its the same list which you would have seen on Twitter and Facebook. Apparently this list something more different and is based on a slightly new idea.

Google+ implements a Suggested Users list

Bradley Horowitz, one of the minds behind Google+, tweeted that the list based on the no. of Twitter followers you have. According to his tweet, if you have 100K or more followers on Twitter you might be the next face on Google+’s Suggested Users list. The list is not just an imitation of Twitter’s Who to Follow list, where the Popular get more popular and the decent ones get left behind. Although many people are regarding this list creates a racial discrimination between the whites and blacks. Zennie Abraham, a blogger for San Francisco Chronicle says that the list fosters racial sterotypes.

According to a quote on PCWorld, Zennie says

“The Google Suggested User List reads like the typical San Francisco Bay Area tech firm’s view of the World: most of the ‘interesting and famous people’ are white, and if they’re black, they’re male rappers or athletes. Hello, Snoop Dog, Chamillionaire, 50 Cent, Dwight Howard, and Floyd Mayweather!”

As indecent as this idea sounds. Bradley tells us, that was not the way the list was meant to be categorised. He says the list is built on the theory “Top content Tops the list” i.e. the person who shares genuine and informative content on his profile automatically gains a rank up on the list.

According to an excerpt on the Huffington,

In order to retain a position on the list, a user will need to continue creating compelling content. But we should probably allow for folks to take an occasional vacation without concern about their rank dropping […] No one gets on the list “automatically.” But again, in the early days, we do want to make it easy for users to connect with people they might find compelling. If they prove not to be, justice will be served, and all will be right in the world.

If you already have a profile on Google+, creating your own list should be pretty easy. Get Started over here.

Find whom to add on Google+

How much fuzz this Google+ Suggested Users list will create in the Social Media market is unknown. I for one think that this list will be a big hit as it allows everyone to compete for a rank to top the list.

So what do you think about this list? Drop a comment and let us know! And if you own a face on this list please don’t forget to tell us.

Google+ has games up its sleeve. A new Gaming network to start

Google+ is starting a new gaming platform on its social network. Vic Gundotra, the Senior VP of the Google Plus Team announced it officially on the blog yesterday.

google plus gaming network

Soon you will be seeing a new tab on your Google+ page. The tab will be placed next to the Circles tab and will be all about Games. Like Facebook, Google+ thinks that a social interaction isn’t just limited to conversations, it is about the real life experiences.

According to the blog post,

With the Google+ project, we want to bring the nuance and richness of real-life sharing to the web. But sharing is about more than just conversations. The experiences we have together are just as important to our relationships. We want to make playing games online just as fun, and just as meaningful, as playing in real life.

You can also brag about your scores to other people and vice versa. The Privacy feature in Google+ is very easy to fiddle with. As Google+ states it is not compulsory for you to be interested in games too, you can easily switch off the game tab and then you will only see conversations from your friends.

Google+ currently has an attractive set of games to begin with like Angry Birds, Crime City and Sudoku. Start the gaming fun right now! Here is a sneak peek about how the gaming experience will be on Google+.
