First impression

The very first thing which I noticed as soon as I held the phone on my hand is the weight.  The device weighs 200 grams, Initially I felt it was bit heavy, gradually i got used to it.  There is a power saving application which is built-in to the phone, It helps  extend the phone’s battery life by turning off the battery-intensive processes like Wi-fi and Bluetooth, also by dimming the screen. A dedicated switch is present at the right side of phone called as “Power-saving switch”, with a toggle you can save the phone’s battery consumption. Of course if you run out of battery you can also have a portable solar generator with lithium battery so you can charge the phone or any other electric device.

Highlights for Philips W3500

  • 1.3 Ghz Quad core Processor
  • 5” Smartphone
  • Dual SIM (GSM and WCDMA)
  • 5 Mega Pixel camera with built in flash.

PhilipsW3500

The Philips w3500 is a large phone with 5 inch WFVGA display running on 1.3Ghz processor.  I found the phone fits perfectly into your pocket also the build quality is fairly good.  This Philips phone runs on 4.2.2 version of Android OS  (Jellybean) . Quickly you can notice the large screen with Philips logo.  The Phone comes with 2 slots for SIM card and 1 slot for memory card ( up to 32 GB).

Initial set up

Setting up the phone was easy.  After configuring the WiFi, you just have to fill in your existing google account details.  All Google stuff like Contacts, Calendars and others gets synced on your phone. It was easy to remove the covers and insert the SIM card (Good for mini SIM card, not so good for micro SIM card)

Apps and Games

The Phone comes pre-installed with Google Play Store where you can find millions of android apps.  Zomato, WhatsApp,BookMyShow, JustUnfollow are some of the apps which I downloaded from store. As the phone is equipped with 1 GB RAM Games like Subway Surfers performed better on this phone with minimum load time and fast graphics rendering.

Battery

No problems yet,  The phone is running normally since its first charge.  You can charge the phone using the provided data cable attached with Charger. The battery is of 2200 mAh (Li-ion).

Camera

The Philips W3500 has a 5 Mega Pixel Camera with built in flash. While trying the phone hands on, I was able to take some good pictures. LG’s G3 now in India

[ad#ad-2]

LG Electronics’ most eagerly awaited smartphone, the LG G3, was launched in a glittering function at Mumbai’s Mehboob Studio. As a Statesman, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan regaled all present bintroducing to them the various features of LG G3. Developed under the ‘Simple is the New Smart’ concept and the successor to the company’s well-received LG G2, the LG G3 is the amalgamation of its consumer research ‘Learning from You’ – an integral part of LG’s product development philosophy.

Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and Mr. Soon Kwon, Managing Director, LG Electronics India unveiling the LG G3 (Left to Right)

In India, the G3 comes with a price tag of Rs. 47,990 for the 16 GB version and Rs. 50,990 for 32 GB version and will be available in three colors.

In the cluttered, complex world of today, the G3 is the perfect blend of the latest innovative technology and simplified user experience underscoring LGs commitment to users and bringing to them the best in class products and devices. Globally, the G3 has witnessed exceptional traction and we expect the same in India,” said Soon Kwon, MD LG Electronics India. “With G3, LG has truly broken technological grounds and we aim to spearhead our vision of 10% smartphone market share by the end of 2014 for LG’s mobile division in India.” added Mr. Kwon.

LG will release 15,000 limited edition G3 smart phones with Signature of Mr. Amitabh Bachchan in the Indian market and few lucky buyers will get the opportunity to actually meet with the legend.

Highlights of the new G3 include:

  • 5.5-inch Quad HD display with 538ppi with four times the resolution of HD and al-most two times higher resolution than a Full HD display
  • 13MP OIS+ (Optical Image Stabilizer Plus) camera with a revolutionary Laser Auto Focus that can shoot stunningly sharp images in a fraction of the time required by conventional phone cameras
  • Polished metallic skin on the rear cover that is lightweight, fingerprint-proof and most of all, beautiful
  • Floating Arc form factor that feels incredibly comfortable in one hand and incorporates the innovative design heritage of the Rear Key
  • Redesigned graphic user interface (GUI) consistent with the Simple is the New Smart concept of the G3

The G3’s innovative streak harbors on three core technologies, Display, Camera and Design. The G3’s Quad HD Display has a pixel density of 538ppi that sets new viewing standards, producing sharper images with extreme clarity. At 5.5 inches, the G3’s display screen pans a ratio of 76.4% with slim bezels making it comfortable to hold in the hand. The 3,000mAh battery of the G3 has a longer lifespan courtesy the metal in the battery cathode being replaced by graphite. The Quad HD display’s ultra-high performance is due to an optimized battery that maximizes operability and efficiency.

The G3’s 13MP OIS+ Camera captures stunning imagery, acquired through the use of itsLaser Auto Focus, a first of its kind feature in any smart phone till date. This feature measures the distance between the camera and the subject using a laser beam to capture images. This simplified image capture process utilizes the tap of a finger to bring the subject into focus, simultaneously triggering the shutter. The G3’s 2.1 MP front camera incorporates new enhancements like a larger image sensor and larger aperture for more light input and better selfies. Gesture controls wherein a clenched fist gesture is recognized by the G3 and a 3 second countdown automatically begins, is an added feature. Video format shooting has superior sound quality with instinctive microphones that scan the ambient environment to detect optimal audio levels for the clearest recording. The built in 1W speaker with Boost Amp offers richer sounds and clearer tones.

Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and Mr. Soon Kwon, Managing Director, LG Electronics India unveiling the LG G3 (Left to Right) - 2

LG’s Design language is anchored in its Rear Key that includes newly designed power and volume buttons with premium quality materials and finish. The matte lined, fingerprint free metallic skin of the G3 is available in three vibrant colors, metallic black, silk white and shine gold. LG has incorporated a user interface with flat graphics that reflects its unique visual style and identity and a circular motif of graphic assets in the new UI.

The G3 is complemented by three Core UX Features, the Smart Keyboard, Smart Notice and Smart Security. The Smart Keyboard functions on adaptive technology that learns as you type for faster input and reduced errors. The height of the keyboard can be adjusted and individual keys can be customized with frequently used symbols. Smart Notice is a personal assistant that offers suggestions and recommendations based on user behavior, phone usage patterns and location based information and has natural language abilities. To secure confidential data, the G3 presents Smart Security like the Knock Code, LG’s patent feature that unlocks the device with the help of a knocking pattern, a personalized code set by the user that can be entered anywhere on screen. The Knock On feature wakes the screen and the Knock Code helps users enter the home screen. The G3’s Content Lock keeps personal files safe and hidden from view. The G3’s Kill Switch disables the smartphone remotely in the event of a theft. The G3 also includes anti-virus scanning and remote wipe and lock.

A host of premium accessories accompany the G3. The QuickCircle Case allows easy access from the QuickCircle window without opening the cover. The bluetooth stereo handset, Tone Infinim, delivers premium audio quality in a stylish design. Name Alertoffers verbal call notification. The Wireless Charger is compact and foldable and optimized for easy portability.

Viewsonic ViewPad 10pro dual-OS tablet brings Windows and Android closer

Viewsonic has recently introduced a new version of the its tablet Viewpad, the ViewPad 10 pro. ViewPad 10pro will bring in a new era of tablets as this one boasts of a dual-OS, the first of its kind.

Yes, you read it right. ViewPad 10pro packs a mighty hard Windows 7 OS alongwith the favourite mobile OS by Google, Android 2.3. Viewsonic says there’s no dual booting required to power on the Android, there’s just the app integrated on the Windows homescreen to take you there. CNET tested the Android performance on the tab and says it switches from Windows to Android in just 3 seconds and Android to Windows almost instantaneously. Although i don’t know how good Windows 7 OS will prove for the tablet users, as its not quite the tablet-friendly software one would have a go for.

Another neat feature of this tab is its battery backup which is seen on none of the tablets in its competition. Viewsonic, the manufacturer of some of the most top visual displays in the world claims that the tablet can run upto 8 hours straight on a single charge. This is a great add-in on the tablet featurelist as most businessmen prefer a long running tablet which is equally efficient as well.

The one biggest con i found in this tablet is its weight. Weighing in at a hefty 800g, this tab will prove as a troublesome to carry! The key goal of any tab is that it should be easy to carry around which this tab fails to deliver. Apart from this one minor drawback everything else looks promising.

As for the specs, the Viewsonic ViewPad 10 pro is powered by a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom Z670 processor, 1024×600 capacitive touch screen, Intel GMA 600 graphics card, 2GB in-built memory, expandable upto 32 GB via microSD slot, 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for video conferencing, HDMI port for 1080p media playback, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and a USB port too.

VERDICT: My verdict on this device is that if you are a user who likes Windows 7 and wants to migrate from a desktop to a touch screen interface and want to enjoy the combined feel of an Android device then i would say give it a go! Don’t look back, this might be just the tab you were looking for and also the battery backup this tab offers is more than OK.

PRICE and RELEASE: ViewPad 10pro is available in two models,

  • the first one which comes with Windows 7 Professional, Android 2.3 and a 32 GB SSD drive is priced at $699
  • the second one features a Windows 7 Home Premium, Android 2.3 mobile OS and 16 GB SSD which is priced at $599

The product is ready to be released late this august. Want to be the first one to grab hands on it? Then subscribe to our feed and we will update you quick enough.

How do you rate this article? Comment and let us know if you give Viewsonic ViewPad 10pro a thumbs up.

Blackberry Torch 2 leaked: RIM says its better than Torch

[ad#chaapsv2-top]
Just hours before, we spotted new documents regarding a possible announcement of the Blackberry Torch 2 smartphone of RIM (Research In Motion) technologies on the FCC website. The model number listed as RDM71UW is undoubtedly the Torch 2.

BlackBerry Torch 2 slim

OK, lets get down to the point. The major changes you will see in this version of Torch i.e. the Torch 2 are as listed below:

  • Screen size is 3.2 inches delivering a 640×480 resolution whereas the Blackberry Torch 9800 was a 480×360 resolution one.
  • It gives you a 1.2 GHz processor (still single-core) with 768 MB of RAM compared to a mere 624 MHz processor speed seen in its predecessor.
  • Runs the latest Blackberry OS 6.1 whereas Torch ran a 6.0. Folks at RIM already deemed 6.1 as a “major upgrade“. Lets see what 6.1 packs in this time.
  • You get enough storage facility this time. Blackberry Torch 2 boasts of a 8GB  internal memory and a 32GB external memory, expandable with the help of a microSD card.
  • 5 megapixel camera with Autofocus and LED Flash integrated. Records videos in HD i.e. 1280×720 resolution.

Nokia N9: Swipe and get it done

Hi friends. Remember just 1 month back we had written a post on the new Nokia N9 rumored phone surfacing around the internet. Well to your surprise it has now become hands on. Yes, engadget was the first to land its hands on this marvellous device.

nokia-n9-hands-on

Lets set aside all the rumors and lay down the facts on the table. It runs on a Meego 1.2 Harmattan Operating System and features a 3.9 inch AMOLED display. engadget has done a comparison test to check out how impressive the display works and in the result they have nothing but praises for it. The outer material is made of polycarbonate, a plastic which is known for its long term durability at least that’s what the laddies at the Finnish company have to say. It also boasts of an all-HD 8 megapixel camera.

Nokia-N9-sleek

I saved its best feature for last so here it comes. Nokia N9 has no buttons, yes surprised?  The UI is a complete swipe technology, there are no buttons seen on the front end, except the three buttons seen at the right side, the smartphone is a complete masterpiece. If you would like to know the various swipe navigations, head onto NOKIA SWIPE and check it out. You can also feel the swipe experience in a virtual environment over there.

nokia-n9-in-red

There is no official release date as of yet but you will be seeing it late this year. According to NYTimes, the pricing is set at $670 for the 16GB model and $760 for the 64GB model and is available in colours Black, Cyan and Magenta.
