Lumia 330 Concept Phones are here!

Some cool dude at PhoneDesigner has posted some interesting Lumia 330 pictures. Well, This comes after Satya Nadela of Microsoft announcing that he is halting Series40 / Asha  Phone development along with Nokia X. Series 40 phones and Asha phones are very popular in developing  countries like India. As these budget phones are saying goodbyes, it should make way for nothing-but-windows phones!

It is interesting to note, Nokia never used any Phone Model series starting with the digit 4.  That’s why we have Lumia 330.. And this is how it looks!

linux mint - the best new linux operating system

Have you heard of Linux Mint? Its better than UBUNTU!

Did you ever know about Linux’s most popular operating system? No its not Ubuntu, at least that’s what most of us would say. Its the new LINUX Mint.  According to the statistics at DistroWatch (the site that collects data regarding the best Linux Operating systems) the most popular Linux OS currently leading is the new Linux Mint!

linux mint welcome screen

The guys at ZDNet have been kind enough to let us know the existence of Linux Mint or else we would have never known about it. I myself (an out of the street LINUX lover) have found out about Linux Mint just now. And when i saw the screenshots of the latest Linux Mint 11 codenamed “Katya”, i was anxious to try it out.

Linux Mint is very elegant looking and of minimalistic styles. It is not too eye candy and doesn’t require a lot of resources to run. In fact it offers an out of the box multimedia solution, meaning you don’t need a high quality graphics card to enjoy its uniqueness. And the nice part is Linux Mint is based on Debian and Ubuntu operating systems, both the distributions, that’s why you get the best of both environments.

linux mint - the interface

Also as you know LINUX Mint is totally free and its code is open source. The perks you get by using this operating system is its interface is powered by GNOME 2.32, which i like the most. Working in Gnome is easy and fast. That’s what i like about Gnome. If you are also a GNOME fan as i am, then you should definitely check out this operating system.

Head to the download page now and start Minting your Linux. The CD version can also be installed using the Windows installer ‘WUBI’.

So pass on your comments if you liked this short review about Linux Mint. Have you tried it yet?

YouTube's new video editor is now live

New YouTube Video editor launched: Have you tried it yet?

YouTube has launched a new browser based video editor that performs quick fixes to a video after it has been uploaded. This is a built-in editor that launched on 14 Sept, 2011, unlike the cloud based YouTube video editor that we saw in 2010.

After a video gets uploaded on YouTube, you could never make changes to it, rather you had to start from Step 1 i.e. upload it again. With the addition of this editing tool, you can now make changes to the video by clicking Edit Video button.

“Until now, when you uploaded to YouTube, your video was hosted and shared, but couldn’t really be changed. Starting today, you can edit your uploaded videos right on YouTube”, said YouTube software engineer John Gregg.

While the tools are not so legendary that you see in a professional video editing software, these editing options will prove very helpful in making some small changes to your video. Some of the editing tools are:

Rotation of a video, Stabilize a shaky footage, Adjust the brightness such as Saturation levels, Color intensity and Temperature. You can also add extra effects to a video such as make it a Black and White video or effectify it with Sepia.

The exciting news is that even after editing of the video, YouTube does not swipe off all your user interactions on that video. Comments, View count, Video URL and ID, all settings are left intact. You can also undo the edit anytime in the future and still expect a positive output. These features have been around for a long time on major prodcutions like Memory Tree Video Production, for example, it’s only recently that we are seeing this developement online.

Here is a small teaser video that shows you what new features you will get in the new YouTube video editor.

So did you enjoy the new YouTube video editor. Share your experiences by a comment and let us know!

bitdefender-total-security-2012-released

BitDefender 2012 beta version is out. Grab it now!

BitDefender just released its newest and latest antivirus software for all, the BitDefender Total Security 2012. But the antivirus is still in beta. Lets quickly list out the new features which will force you to make the change.

Bitdefender 2012 next gen antivirus

1. Autopilot – This feature is the same one seen in the G-Data antivirus. It takes decisions for you without any manual intervention. No pop-ups, no alerts, nothing to configure.

2. Scan Dispatcher – This feature intelligently performs a scan of your system when PC usage falls below a certain level and pauses it when usage is maximum or above normal.

3. Rescue Mode – Sometimes hidden viruses are very adamant and thus become very tough to remove, which is what we call as rootkits. When this situation occurs BitDefender switches the system into Rescue mode where they can be wiped clean.

4. Streamlined installation – This is less of a feature and more of a plus point to the antivirus. With this, the installation speed of the antivirus is greatly increased. BitDefender claims 2012 version takes half the time to install than its previous version.

5. Online Backup+Cloud integration – All the files of your BitDefender products are safely uploaded to the BitDefender servers. This way if there is an outbreak next time you can safely rollback to the files sitting on the servers. Currently BitDefender Total Security 2012 offers you a free plan of 2GB storage space.

6. File Sync – Synchronize all your files from one computer to another or a whole workstation. Changes made to one system are automatically applied to other systems.

7. Smart interface – Most frequently accessed items are automatically visible on the main window. So that next time you want a specific task done you don’t have to navigate all the way where the component is located.

8. Social Networking+ – We see a lot of links on the various social networking sites. Have you thought that some of them are spam and are deliberately put there for you to get affected? BitDefender now scans all your links on Facebook and Twitter so that you can surf without any worries.

Bitdefender 2012 Beta

NEW INTERFACE (Bonus Feature) – BitDefender has completely revamped the user interface. It now features a XBOX 360 like alert circle. Lighting system is bright and next-gen type. The design is clean and smooth. Don’t worry it wont hog your system resources, it is light and silent!

DOWNLOAD the beta and see for yourself. (NOTE: The antivirus is still in beta mode, use it at your own risk)

Drop in all your comments and tell us what you think of the new BitDefender 2012! Will you make the change?

Viewsonic ViewPad 10pro dual-OS tablet brings Windows and Android closer

Viewsonic has recently introduced a new version of the its tablet Viewpad, the ViewPad 10 pro. ViewPad 10pro will bring in a new era of tablets as this one boasts of a dual-OS, the first of its kind.

Yes, you read it right. ViewPad 10pro packs a mighty hard Windows 7 OS alongwith the favourite mobile OS by Google, Android 2.3. Viewsonic says there’s no dual booting required to power on the Android, there’s just the app integrated on the Windows homescreen to take you there. CNET tested the Android performance on the tab and says it switches from Windows to Android in just 3 seconds and Android to Windows almost instantaneously. Although i don’t know how good Windows 7 OS will prove for the tablet users, as its not quite the tablet-friendly software one would have a go for.

Another neat feature of this tab is its battery backup which is seen on none of the tablets in its competition. Viewsonic, the manufacturer of some of the most top visual displays in the world claims that the tablet can run upto 8 hours straight on a single charge. This is a great add-in on the tablet featurelist as most businessmen prefer a long running tablet which is equally efficient as well.

The one biggest con i found in this tablet is its weight. Weighing in at a hefty 800g, this tab will prove as a troublesome to carry! The key goal of any tab is that it should be easy to carry around which this tab fails to deliver. Apart from this one minor drawback everything else looks promising.

As for the specs, the Viewsonic ViewPad 10 pro is powered by a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom Z670 processor, 1024×600 capacitive touch screen, Intel GMA 600 graphics card, 2GB in-built memory, expandable upto 32 GB via microSD slot, 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for video conferencing, HDMI port for 1080p media playback, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and a USB port too.

VERDICT: My verdict on this device is that if you are a user who likes Windows 7 and wants to migrate from a desktop to a touch screen interface and want to enjoy the combined feel of an Android device then i would say give it a go! Don’t look back, this might be just the tab you were looking for and also the battery backup this tab offers is more than OK.

PRICE and RELEASE: ViewPad 10pro is available in two models,

  • the first one which comes with Windows 7 Professional, Android 2.3 and a 32 GB SSD drive is priced at $699
  • the second one features a Windows 7 Home Premium, Android 2.3 mobile OS and 16 GB SSD which is priced at $599

The product is ready to be released late this august. Want to be the first one to grab hands on it? Then subscribe to our feed and we will update you quick enough.

How do you rate this article? Comment and let us know if you give Viewsonic ViewPad 10pro a thumbs up.

Time Travel in Games now! Girl discovers exploit in mobile games

A 10 year old girl from California whose is called as CyFi in the hacker world has discovered an exploit in Android and iOS games. This exploit allows users to time travel in games.

Girl discovers exploit in mobile games

According to CyFi, we can now fast forward the game progress by advancing the clock. The logic is simple, disconnect the device from WiFi and advance the clock by small increments then reconnect it to WiFi. The result is you are now ahead of time and you are pretty much enjoying it!

She was out sitting playing a Farmville game and apparently got frustrated because the game wasn’t moving fast enough. The game is designed such that a particular crop takes more or less 10 hours to mature. CyFi discovered that if we can advance the clock somehow we can jump into the time sequence and skip the previous chapters.

CyFi told CNET,

“It was hard to make progress in the game, because it took so long for things to grow. So I thought, ‘Why don’t I just change the time?'”

She calls this creation as “Zero Day”. Mobile developers and Testers failed to discover this flaw in games with which we can easily cheat a game. CyFi has done a great job by discovering this vulnerability, she is denying to reveal further details of the flaw as she wants to give the game developers time to fix it. Don’t take this kid lightly she is the co-founder of DEFCON KIDS which is a small part of DEFCON ( The World’s largest underground hacking conference).

Microsoft Social Network

Microsoft Tulalip: A rumored to be Social Network

Microsoft is planning to take down Facebook and the very latest social network by Google, Google+ by starting its own social network which goes by the name Tulalip.

microsoft-tulalip

Fusible was the first to report this news. Shocking as it came we noticed a welcome screen hung upon on the site socl.com which is short for Social. The welcome screen reads,

“With Tulalip you can Find what you need and Share what you know easier than ever”

Reports suggests that, Microsoft purchased the domain socl.com recently just two weeks ago, exactly when Google launched its social network. Obviously Microsoft was planning this way before. From what we know, the Search box where it reads OPEN is currently non functional. The Facebook Sign in feature too does not work.

tulalip-twitter-app

The Twitter Sign in feature is where we have been able to gather more information about what this new service is going to be all about. As soon as you click it, you will see Twitter’s authorization page. In here glance over the application control features:

Read Tweets, Follow others, Update Profile and Post Tweets automatically

Now what impression does this give to you? That its some kind of social network right! Yes as nice as that news maybe to you, you will bummed to hear that its just a experimental app for now.

If you look at it closely, you can see that it says

Tulalip, By Microsoft Research, Experimental App.

Well it speaks for itself, we don’t think we will hear of Tulalip in a while as the service is currently under development. If you like you can check out SOCL.com yourself. Presently the page reads,

“Thanks for stopping by. Socl.com is an internal design project from a team in Microsoft Research which was mistakenly published to the web. We didn’t mean to, honest.”

I think Microsoft heard about its possible leak and posted that message. We certainly don’t think it was a mistake. DO YOU?

Flash Vs HTML5

Google Swiffy Introduced: Flash “out” HTML5 “in”

With the introduction of Google+, Google also introduced its new Flash to HTML5 converter on Tuesday. This creation is the work of a very young, energetic and passionate Googler known as Pieter Senster.

Google Swiffy Labs

According to this software, it can convert Flash animation files known as .SWF into fully functional HTML5 files. As we know Flash is very important to us. All the videos we watch on YouTube and other internet players are Flash related content, so with the introduction of this technology people can now watch videos without installing the Flash plugin, like iPhones and iPads which do not support Flash.

convert-flash-to-html5

Speaking in Technobabble, simply feed the Swiffy converter with a .swf file and the result is a JSON file rendered with the help of SVG and a bit of HTML5 and CSS3. Modern browsers like Google Chrome and Apple Safari reads the converted files as Javascript and renders the content smoothly to you. Take a look at some of the demo content here at Swiffy Galleria.

Maybe you would have also heard a similar Flash to HTML5 converting tool developed by Adobe and only known as Wallaby. But Google claims that Swiffy has lot more advantages than Wallaby. Some of the primary being Swiffy can convert .swf files whereas Wallaby only focuses on .fla file conversion. Also Wallaby’s converted file can easily be edited whereas Swiffy’s files are very hard to breakthrough. For a more deeper review refer to FAQ over here.

Don’t forget to visit Swiffy Labs. Time for your comment! You can also submit your creations over here.
