Good deal but Two showstoppers:
1. Exclusive to Airtel.
2. Expensive for Re.1 keeping in mind we do lot of tweeting everyday.
Better off enabling GPRS, EDGE

This is a nice initiative from Twitter though launching at Diwali time in India does not make much sense as most of telecom giant will be increasing the SMS rate for 3 days in Diwali.

Twitter and Airtel deal is really helpful for both of them and at the same time it is helpful for users as well.
